Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant native to the Americas. Sunflowers are the happiest of flowers, and their meanings include loyalty and longevity. They are unique in their ability to provide energy in the form of nourishment and vibrance, an attribute which mirrors the sun and the energy provided by its heat and light.

In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s glorious Phipps Conservatory sits a beautiful flowering Ball Cactus (Parodia Magnifica) originating in Brazil. At the end of the 80s the IOS (International Organization of Succulent plant studies) worked on a reorganization of the genus of the Cactus family. A by-product of this was the inclusion of the Notocactus in the genus Parodia.

Katherine Morgan > Cabbage Blossom

Yes, it's a green cabbage flower. I created quite a different flavor once the colors are replaced and shaded and highlighted to invite the eye into a center of leafy pale rose and charcoal blue tones. The dark accents around the leaves create a bit of a dramatic outline to enhance the and contrast.

A dramatic composition of Nymphæa odorata or American Water Lily against its aquatic environment.

The native Water Lilies that abound in many of our lakes, ponds, and rivers, are more or less familiar to all. They grow up year after year through the placid waters, unfolding their blossoms of spotless purity to the silent stars, and after a short while, disappear, to return at another favorable season. The American Water Lily, Nymphæa odorata, has flowers of white with yellow, and a pleasant scent. The size of the flowers averages three to four inches across.
